A high-mountain loop route starting in Tíjola and heading toward the Collado de Venta Luisa via the newer road that runs parallel to the Las Menas ascent. This stretch is ideal for warming up before a long descent to Gérgal.
After passing through Gérgal, the main challenge begins: the long ascent to Calar Alto via Aulago — a never-ending climb stretching over 32 km and nearly 1,500 m of elevation gain. Though not steep, its length and exposure to the sun take a toll as the climb drags on.
Once at the top, crowned by the astronomical observatory, the descent back to Tíjola is fast and smooth. While this route may not be as visually striking as others nearby, it’s an excellent option for logging elevation and endurance in quiet, remote terrain.
⛰️ Climbs:
- ⛰️ 31.6 km · 1,438 m · 4.4 %
- ⛰️ 32.1 km · 1,474 m · 4.8 %
🔑 Highlights:
- 🧭 Serón road: quiet and well-paved, runs parallel to Las Menas.
- 🧗 Calar Alto via Aulago: mentally tough and very long.
- 🌞 Sun exposure: no shade during the main climbs.
- 🧃 Bring supplies: few villages in the second half.
