A long-distance ride through the Alpujarra of Granada
This route starts in Berja and climbs steadily from the Benínar reservoir toward Turón and then Murtas. The gradients aren’t extreme, but the climbs are long and consistent. After reaching Murtas, the route enters the Granadan Alpujarra, passing through peaceful mountain villages like Mecina Bombarón and Válor.
Long climbs and ever-changing scenery
The Turón–Murtas climb totals over 1,000 meters of elevation in 22.7 km. Later climbs toward Válor offer stunning views of both Sierra Nevada and the distant Contraviesa range. None of the ascents are brutally steep, but they add up to almost 2,900 meters of climbing—demanding enough for any rider.
Remote and scenic return
From Cherín, the descent winds through Darrícal and Lucainena, using quiet secondary roads with good pavement and virtually no traffic. With its constant elevation changes, scenic diversity, and remote feel, this is a top route for experienced riders looking for endurance days.
