One of the giants: La Ragua from Benínar
This route includes one of the toughest climbs in the province: the Puerto de la Ragua. Measured from Benínar reservoir, it stretches 32.7 km at 5.2% average—an HC climb with full-on mountain stage stats.
The ride begins in Berja, then heads past the reservoir and up through Cherín, where the main section of the climb begins. This side of La Ragua features open views, forested stretches, and long steady gradients.
Descent via Laujar and a final push at Hirmes
After reaching the top, the descent follows the Láujar side—a gentler slope with lower average gradients. The return to Berja includes a final test: the short but demanding Hirmes climb near the end of the ride.
This last effort may be brief, but it comes after a long day of climbing, adding an extra challenge before finishing.
A full mountain day for strong riders
With over 2,800 m of climbing in just over 120 km, this route is all about elevation. Roads are quiet and well-surfaced, and the landscape shifts dramatically—from dry reservoir areas to high-altitude pine forests and farmland.
